This is a drawing from a project I did on Tiktok I called #fantasyfridays. I would pick a fantasy creature from folklore from different cultures and illustrate it. This piece is a of Selkie, common in Scottish and Irish folklore. The idea is a seal that can take the form of a woman by shedding its seal skin, so I wanted to draw something that represented both forms. I really enjoyed drawing this piece and getting lost in the mark making. I love the lore of the Selkies and the way this illustration came out where it looks like the woman and seal are swimming or dancing as one is so pleasing to me.
